Director of Communications and Development

Ashleigh MacLeod, Director of Communications and Development, leads the Conservancy’s storytelling, content strategy, design, media relations, and donor engagement initiatives to build lasting connections and drive support for its mission. In her role, she oversees the development and execution of campaigns, publications, and outreach efforts, ensuring they effectively communicate the critical importance of preserving and restoring California’s wilderness landscapes. Additionally, Ashleigh manages a talented team of professionals, guiding them to achieve ambitious goals in both communications and fundraising, while fostering collaboration and innovation across the organization.

I’ve cared about the planet my entire life. From studying oceanography to documenting stories of environmental change, I’ve always been driven by a deep connection to the natural world. This work allows me to share the beauty and urgency of protecting the High Sierra so future generations can experience the same wonder I feel in these wild places.”

Ashleigh holds a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in oceanography from Hawaii Pacific University. With decades of experience in creative storytelling, she has combined her love for nature with her expertise in crafting narratives that inspire action. Her career includes leading impactful campaigns at organizations like Patagonia and now JMT Wild, where her work spans developing engaging communications, building connections with diverse audiences, and advancing awareness around climate change and conservation efforts. When she’s not bringing stories to life, you’ll find her camping in the Sierra, kayaking with her dog Dr. Zoidberg, traveling, or indulging in a foodie adventure.
