Director of Communications and Development

Sara Barnes is the Director of Finance at JMT Wilderness Conservancy, where she leads the organization’s financial and human resources operations. With a strong background in managing finance and HR operations in the outdoor recreation industry, Sara has a proven track record of driving operational efficiencies and strategic growth. She is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, including grant reporting, reconciliations, and budgeting, while also managing HR functions to support the Conservancy’s mission. Sara grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills, which sparked her deep love for the outdoors. After pursuing an education at Sacramento State University, with a focus in Anthropology, she moved to North Lake Tahoe where she’s been fortunate to be able to combine her professional skills with her passion for the region’s natural beauty.
